Seemingly Ordinary

(2022)

Kitchen towels, bed sheets, table cloths and rugs — textiles connected to the home. Seemingly ordinary everyday items that rarely gets noticed.

I am drawn to older home textiles, the ones that  nowadays can be found in large quantities at every flea-market, almost for free. These are often skillfully executed, well-crafted objects made by someone that remains unknown. A few embroidered letters is usually the only clue to who the craftsperson behind the piece is.

Embroidered flowers, knotted lace, long fringes and crocheted threads. In this work, seemingly everyday objects have taken new shapes. In five textile sculptures, classic and recognizable textiles from the home are celebrated.

The extraordinary is in the ordinary and mundane and I want to pay tribute and highlight these overlooked objects and materials that often passes us by unnoticed.
